M: Mrs. Black? I’ve been trying to find out when we can have a lunch party with the Chinese students. Could you take a look at these dates?
W: Sure. The fifteenth is out. I’ll be at a meeting the whole day. The fourteenth or the sixteenth is fine.
M: Well, why don’t we make it the sixteenth? It is the last day of the camp.
W: Good idea. That way, everybody can just go home afterwards.
M: OK, I’ll make the invitations.
W: I’ve got to run. I’ve got a lesson with the Chinese students in five minutes.

Animals travelling from one country to another have to follow laws, just as people do. They don’t have to hold a passport, but they have to obey other rules. Most countries have laws about animals coming into their country. The laws were made to stop the spread of diseases that animals may have.
Animals that travel include cats and dogs going with their owners on trip, animals going to zoos, and birds and fish on their way to pet shops.
Some animals can’t go into a country unless their owners can prove that they don’t carry diseases. Others must be checked carefully by animal doctors.
Some animals must spend a month or more in a special place in the country where they go before they can enter it. These animals are kept away from other animals until it is certain that they don’t have a disease. There are many different laws in each country. Anyone who wants to take a pet to another country should check with the government first. Laws are made to protect both people and animals.
