2. M: Is there anything we must do?
W: Yes, if I were you, I would make a call to mum for we have to say goodbye to her before we leave.
3. W: Why are you in such a hurry?
M: Tomorrow is Teachers’ Day, but I haven’t got a gift for Mr. White.
4. M: I’d like to have that coat. But I haven’t got enough money.
W: Shall I lend you some?
5. W: What will you do tomorrow?

Text 6
W: What’s the accommodation like in London, Ahmed?
M: Well, it’s a bit difficult. There are thousands of overseas students here, you know.
W: Would it be better to stay in a hotel, to share a flat, or to stay with a family?
M: It would probably be better to stay with a family to begin with, Carla.
W: You wouldn’t recommend sharing a flat?
M: No, I wouldn’t move into a flat if I were you. You won’t get much studying done in a flat. You’ll spend half your time cooking and cleaning!
W: How can I find out about families who take in students?
M: There’s a list at the student union building, on campus. The people at the student union should be able to help you find a family to stay with.
Text 7
W: Clinic, can I help you?
M: This is Frank Smith. Can I make an appointment with Dr Milton?
W: Yes, of course, Mr. Smith. Can you manage this afternoon?
M: I am afraid not. I can manage tomorrow.
W: I am afraid Dr Milton’s not on duty tomorrow. He’ll be here the day after tomorrow. That’s Thursday, March 27th.
M: Fine.
W: Will 5:30 pm be all right?
M: Yes. But what time is the clinic closed?
W: We start at 5:00 am and close at 7:00 pm on weekdays. We don’t work on the weekends.
M: I’d prefer a later time.
W: Then what about 6:15 pm?
M: Well, that’s fine.

W: Hi, Dave. Good to see you could come a long way. Come in.
M: Wow. Looks like the party is at a high point.
W: Yeah. And they’re eating all of my food. Oh, I’d like you to meet my sister, Carol. She’s visiting on the weekend.
M: Oh. Which one is she?
W: She’s sitting on the sofa over there.
M: You mean the woman with long black hair?
W: That’s right. Let me introduce her to you. You’re both so friendly and adventurous.
M: And who’s the man sitting next to her? Uh, the man wearing the suit jacket?
W: Oh, that’s Bob, my ballet teacher.
M: Ballet teacher! I never knew you could do ballet.
W: I started about two months ago. Come on. I’d like you to meet them.
M: I’m coming.
Text 9
M: Hi, would you like some free candies?
W: Sure. What are you handing these out for?
M: Well, we’re trying to gather some volunteers for the day care center.
W: Uh…
M: It’s OK. You don’t have to volunteer if you eat the candies.
W: I’m just playing around. Actually, I have some free time in the mornings after I go jogging. What exactly do you need?
M: It’s wide open right now, everything from playground assistants to diaper changers.
W: Oh, I might pass on the latter. But spending some time on the playground with some small kids might be fun.
M: Well, you’re quite warm-hearted. I haven’t even mentioned the benefits but you’re volunteering.
W: Oh, well, what are the benefits?
M: Well, since you said you’d be likely to take a morning shift, there would be a free breakfast personally prepared by the cook.
W: Great!

Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the City Zoo. Now I’d like to explain the programme we’ve arranged for you here this afternoon. There’ll be three animal shows. The first show will begin at three o’clock in the aquarium. You’ll certainly be fascinated by the dolphins’ and the killer whales’ funny actions. After that comes the second show. This is feeding the monkeys at four o’clock in the primate centre. Please don’t feed the animals with any sweets, or biscuits or fruits, because these can upset the animals’ normal diet. You can assist the staff in feeding the monkeys with specially prepared food, and in playing with the monkeys, too. The last show will begin at 4:30 in the bird cage. Dr Taylor will be with you as your guide. He’ll point out to you more than 300 species of birds from South America. If you have any questions about these shows or other events at the zoo, please ask the people at the information desk at the main entrance.
