What is preservice training?

Preservice training is instruction which takes place before a person begins a job or task.

Here is a benefit of preservice training:

• The trainees can take all the time they need to focus on their learning without having other responsibilities.

Here is a disadvantage of preservice training:

• There are no immediate real-life situations for trainees to practice the skills they learned.

Here are some situations in which preservice training is appropriate:

• The trainees cannot do the task without the training.
• The trainees must be certified before they can begin doing the task.
• The trainees are not accepted by the community to do a given task unless they have appropriate training.
