What is an appendix?

An appendix is supplementary back matter or other written material added to a publication.

Here are some examples of an appendix:

• Explanations and helpful information the author has decided not to make part of the text
• Definitions of words or concepts used in the publication
• Maps, charts, tables, lists, diagrams, or other explanatory sections

• Concept module: appendix
• In overview module: Glossary (Literacy): A
• In modular book: Glossary of literacy terms
• In document collection: Reference materials
