What is a nonisolatable syllable?

A nonisolatable syllable is a single sound that cannot be pronounced in isolation without distortion.

Here are some examples of nonisolatable syllables:

• A consonant sound that only occurs between vowels
• A vowel that is pronounced differently, depending on its position in the word
