The leaders of North and South Korea have reached a series of agreements Wednesday.

Reuters correspondent Grace Lee reports South Korean President Moon Jae-in and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un have been meeting in the North's capital, Pyongyang.

Kim has agreed to "permanently" scrap his key missile facilities while foreign experts watch. That's according to South Korean leader Moon Jae-in, who says Kim's also willing to close his main nuclear complex if the U.S. takes reciprocal action. But what Kim wants to see isn't clear.

"North and South Korea have agreed on a denuclearization plan for the first time. This is a very meaningful outcome."

The two leaders signed a joint agreement in front of cameras and hinted another historic milestone will happen before the new year.

"I've promised President Moon to visit Seoul in the near future."

The Koreas have also signed a military accord to try and prevent armed clashes between the two sides

Representatives of China and the U.S. have been meeting after China tried to persuade the U.S. not to require some Chinese state media outlets to register as foreign agents.

The revelation came Wednesday from China's Foreign Ministry which said Chinese officials had met with U.S. officials.

The Wall Street Journal newspaper reported Tuesday that the U.S. Justice Department is demanding that China's Xinhua news agency and a state-run English language television station register as foreign agents.

Alibaba Chairman Jack Ma said Wednesday the Chinese e-commerce giant has canceled plans to create a million jobs in the U.S. Xinhua said he blamed the ongoing trade war between the U.S. and China for his decision.

For the third time, former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has been arrested in connection with a scandal-plagued state investment fund.

Outrage over the scandal led to the shocking electoral defeat in May of Najib and his National Front coalition, which had ruled Malaysia since 1957.

Zimbabwe's president says his government will help fight a cholera outbreak that has killed 32 people and affected more than 3,000 over the past three weeks.

Correspondent Columbus Mavhunga reports for VOA from Harare.

After visiting the epicenter of the cholera outbreak in Harare, President Emmerson Mnangagwa vowed to help the Harare City Council with financial assistance and called on the corporate world to donate toward fighting the epidemic.

Tuesday, a U.N. spokesperson in Zimbabwe said a U.N. emergency response fund may be activated as the cholera outbreak spreads to other parts of the country.

Pakistan's high court has ordered the release of former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law. The court suspended the sentences imposed on them after they were convicted of corruption.

Sharif was released along with the other members of his family late Wednesday and were greeted by party leaders and workers outside the prison in the garrison city of Rawalpindi.

The U.S. State Department's annual survey of global terrorism has been released and a familiar country is on top of the list once again.

Associated Press correspondent Ben Thomas reports.

The United States has once again named Iran as the world's leading state sponsor of terrorism.

The State Department's annual terrorism survey accuses Tehran of intensifying numerous conflicts and trying to undermine governments throughout the Middle East. It says Iran and its proxies are responsible for fomenting violence in Afghanistan, Bahrain, Iraq, Lebanon and Yemen.

The report says Iranian fighters and militias like Lebanon's Hezbollah have emerged emboldened from the war in Syria with valuable battlefield experience they seek to leverage elsewhere.

The U.S. State Department says it is scheduling meetings with members of Congress to talk about the department's proposal to place a record-low cap on refugees to be allowed into the U.S. next year.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Monday told reporters the "proposed" cap would be 30,000 refugees. Lawmakers and refugee advocates swiftly criticized the announcement.

What [Popeo] Pompeo, that is, did not explain is that the announcement was just a proposal included in an annual report that is submitted to Congress, not the final number.
