U.S. President Donald Trump says he has narrowed his list of potential Supreme Court nominees to five candidates including two women.
The president said he will announce his selection July 9.
Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One Friday that he might begin interviewing candidates this weekend in Bedminster, New Jersey, where is spending time with family at his private golf course.
"From day one, I've heard outside of war and peace, of course, the most important decision you make is the selection of a Supreme Court judge -- if you get it. And as you know there have been many presidents that never got a choice. You know, they went four years, they went eight years and they never got a choice, and here we are at two already."
Trump is seeking to nominate a replacement to succeed retiring Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy.
Canada has announced billions of dollars' worth of retaliatory tariffs against the United States in response to the Trump administration's duties on Canadian steel and aluminum.
Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland said Friday that her country had no other choice. It would not escalate the dispute but it would not be pushed around.
"These countermeasures will only apply to goods originating from the United States. They will take effect on July 1 and will remain in place until the United States eliminates its trade restrictive measures against Canada."
Some items will be subject to taxes of 10 or 25 percent, the same amount that President Trump imposed on imports of steel and aluminum.

The U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights is calling for an end to the fighting in Daraa in southwest Syria.
As Lisa Schlein reports, the U.N. is warning of a humanitarian "catastrophe" if violence between Russian-backed Syrian forces and armed rebels continues to escalate.
The United Nations says thousands of people are fleeing the escalating violence in Daraa, but it warns civilians caught in the battle between Syrian and rebel forces are likely to be trapped in the governorate because Jordan has closed the border, cutting off their main escape route.
The high commissioner's spokeswoman Liz Throssell tells VOA that is very worrying.
"The real concern is the civilians being held, being under a siege, the civilians basically caught between the two sides."
The U.N. human rights office has documented at least 46 civilian deaths, including children, since fighting erupted 11 days ago. The agency believes the true figure is probably higher.
