Comments: This is a Louis the 15th quote; it means "After me, the flood." It has been credited to Louis the 14th (L etat ce moi) and also Marie Antoinette - however, enough of a knowledge of these particular characters in history would realize that the logical speaker would be Louis the 15th. He said it in reference to the impending revolution (the flood) that would occur after he had died. Lo and behold, a few years later, the French Revolution was one of the bloodiest hours France saw. What the quotation means to me and why I decided to get the tattoo: It's a slightly more reckless "carpe diem" - also, I'm a disgusting huge history nerd. It only felt right. I'm so happy I have this tattoo.
