在2015年春节团拜会上的讲话 Speech at a Gathering to Celebrate the Spring Festival

同志们，朋友们：
Fellow countrymen and dear friends:
“东风随春归，发我枝上花。”一年一度的新春佳节又到了，我们即将迎来中华民族的传统节日——乙未羊年春节。今天，我们在这里欢聚一堂、辞旧迎新，充满了喜悦之情。
“With the return of spring comes an easterly breeze, which hastens the trees into wonderful bloom.” Very soon we will welcome the Spring Festival, the traditional festival of the Chinese people, and with it the Year of the Sheep. It is with great jubilance that we are gathered here today, to bid farewell to the old and usher in the new.
在这里，我代表党中央、国务院，向大家致以节日的美好祝愿！向全国各族人民，向香港特别行政区同胞、澳门特别行政区同胞、台湾同胞和海外侨胞拜年！
On behalf of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my best wishes to you all at this festive time. I would also like to extend new year greetings to people of all ethnic groups in China, to our compatriots in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Macao Special Administrative Region, and Taiwan, and to all Chinese people residing overseas.
过年是盘点旧岁的时刻。过去的一年，是辛勤耕耘的一年，也是岁物丰成的一年。这一年是我国全面深化改革元年，国内改革发展稳定任务繁重艰巨，国际形势风云变幻。全党全国各族人民团结一心、众志成城，坚持稳中求进工作总基调，蹄疾步稳深化改革，持续有力推动发展，扎实有效改善民生，全面加强国防和军队建设，积极开展对外工作，聚精会神管党治党，对全面推进依法治国作出部署，改革开放和社会主义现代化建设各方面都取得新的重大进展。
The coming of a new year is a time to look back on the year gone by.
The past year was one in which we worked laboriously and accomplished a great deal. Witnessing the inauguration of China’s drive to comprehensively deepen reform, it was a year in which we faced formidable tasks related to reform, development, and stability at home, and a volatile and unpredictable situation abroad. Working together with one heart and mind, the entire CPC and people of all ethnic groups in China made steady progress in a wide range of initiatives. We took rapid but steady steps to deepen reform; adopted powerful measures to promote sustained economic growth; launched steady and effective efforts to improve public wellbeing; strengthened China’s national defense and armed forces; engaged in active diplomatic initiatives; devoted major energies to the governance of the CPC; and laid out overall plans for advancing the law-based governance of China, thereby achieving major advances in all aspects of reform, opening up, and socialist modernization.
此时此刻，我们为伟大的祖国而自豪，为伟大的人民而自豪！我们要向勤劳勇敢的中国人民道一声辛苦，对他们焕发出来的非凡创造精神、创造的非凡业绩表示崇高的敬意！
At this moment, we feel proud of our great motherland, and proud of our great people. We should thank the brave and industrious Chinese people for their hard work, and salute them for their incredible creativity and achievements!
过年也是谋划新年的时刻。时序更替，梦想前行。今年，我们面临的形势依然严峻复杂，承担的任务更加繁重艰巨。我们要紧紧依靠人民，从人民中吸取智慧，从人民中凝聚力量，全面贯彻落实党的十八大和十八届三中、四中全会精神，以邓小平理论、“三个代表”重要思想、科学发展观为指导，按照全面建成小康社会、全面深化改革、全面依法治国、全面从严治党的战略布局，更加扎实地推进经济发展，更加坚定地推进改革开放，更加充分地激发创造活力，更加有效地维护公平正义，更加有力地保障和改善民生，更加深入地改进党风政风，为国家增创更多财富，为人民增加更多福祉，为民族增添更多荣耀。
The coming of a new year is also a time to make plans for the year ahead.
As time goes on, so must our commitment to pursuing our dreams. In the new year, we will continue to face a severe and complex situation, and our tasks will be even more challenging. It is therefore essential that we rely on the people, draw wisdom from the people, and find strength in the people. We need to fully implement the guiding principles of the Eighteenth National Congress of the CPC and of the third and fourth plenary sessions of the Eighteenth CPC Central Committee; follow the guidance of Deng Xiaoping Theory, the important thought of Three Represents, and the Scientific Outlook on Development; and engage in a comprehensive strategic push to build a moderately prosperous society in all respects, deepen reform, advance law-based governance, and strengthen Party conduct. Working on this basis, we must redouble our efforts to push the economy to grow steadily; advance reform and opening up resolutely; unleash creativity fully; uphold social equity and justice effectively; safeguard and improve public wellbeing vigorously; and improve Party and government conduct thoroughly, so as to bring increasing wealth to the country, greater happiness to the people, and more glory to the nation.
我们正在进行的中国特色社会主义事业，是前无古人的开创性事业，前进道路不可能一帆风顺，我们必须准备进行具有许多新的历史特点的伟大斗争。“其作始也简，其将毕也必巨。”我们要永远保持清醒头脑，继续发扬筚路蓝缕、以启山林那么一种精神，继续保持空谈误国、实干兴邦那么一种警醒，敢于战胜前进道路上的一切困难和挑战，使中国特色社会主义道路始终成为中华民族创造辉煌的必由之路，始终成为中华民族实现伟大复兴的必由之路，始终成为中华民族为人类作出新的更大贡献的必由之路。
The cause of socialism with Chinese characteristics that we are currently advancing is an unprecedented and pioneering venture. The path ahead will not be easy. We must be prepared to carry out a great struggle with many new historical features. As the saying goes, great things have small beginnings. Keeping a clear head at all times, we must uphold the pioneering spirit of hardship and endurance, and be consciously aware that empty talk leads the country astray, while hard work revitalizes it. We must have the courage to overcome all difficulties and challenges on the road ahead, cementing the position of Chinese socialism as the only path that can take our people to glory, lead our nation to rejuvenation, and enable us to make an even greater contribution to humanity.
春节是万家团圆、共享天伦的美好时分。游子归家，亲人团聚，朋友相会，表达亲情，畅叙友情，抒发乡情，其乐融融，喜气洋洋。中华民族自古以来就重视家庭、重视亲情。家和万事兴、天伦之乐、尊老爱幼、贤妻良母、相夫教子、勤俭持家等，都体现了中国人的这种观念。“慈母手中线，游子身上衣。临行密密缝，意恐迟迟归。谁言寸草心，报得三春晖。”唐代诗人孟郊的这首《游子吟》，生动表达了中国人深厚的家庭情结。家庭是社会的基本细胞，是人生的第一所学校。不论时代发生多大变化，不论生活格局发生多大变化，我们都要重视家庭建设，注重家庭、注重家教、注重家风，紧密结合培育和弘扬社会主义核心价值观，发扬光大中华民族传统家庭美德，促进家庭和睦，促进亲人相亲相爱，促进下一代健康成长，促进老年人老有所养，使千千万万个家庭成为国家发展、民族进步、社会和谐的重要基点。
The Spring Festival is a happy occasion when families reunite. Sons and daughters return, family members gather, and friends meet, giving full expression to the values of kinship, friendship, and home. It is a time of harmony, and of happiness. Since ancient times, the Chinese people have attached great value to family and kinship. This is reflected in the traditional view that all goes well when a family lives in harmony; in the belief that family life is joyous and rewarding; in the tradition of respecting the elderly and taking care of the young; in the appreciation of virtuous wives and devoted mothers who support their husbands and teach their children; and in the common view that a good household is one that is run diligently and thriftily. The deep sense of family that the Chinese people have is perhaps most vividly expressed in the poem Song of the Parting Son, by the Tang Dynasty poet Meng Jiao:
The thread in mother’s hand, A gown for the parting son, Sewn stitch by stitch, alas! For fear of cold he’ll stand. Such kindness of warm sun Can’t be repaid by grass.
The family is the basic unit of society, and the first school that we attend in life. Regardless of how the times change, or how our lives are transformed, we must remain committed to making our families better, laying emphasis on life, learning, and conduct in the home. On the basis of cultivating and promoting our core socialist values, we should carry forward the fine family values of the Chinese nation, promoting close and harmonious relationships among family members, creating conditions for the healthy growth of the next generation, and ensuring that elderly people receive the care they need, so that thousands upon thousands of families become an important bedrock for the development of the country, the progress of the nation, and the harmony of society.
同志们、朋友们，春天播种，秋天收获。让我们踏着春天的脚步，把人民对美好生活的向往作为奋斗目标，扎扎实实干好各项工作，共同创造祖国的美好未来。
Fellow countrymen and friends:
He who plants in the spring reaps in the autumn. With the vigor of springtime in our stride, let us make fulfilling the people’s desire for a better life the goal we work for, carry out our various initiatives in a sure and steady fashion, and work together to create a better future for our motherland.
