Meanwhile and eventually
Q:
Can these two connectors be classified
as sequential logical connectors even though they are not synonyms?
What about these sentences with the above connectors, are they grammatically
correct?
1.
|
The students are learning to program, so they can´t start
the project yet. Meanwhile, we have to do the work ourselves.
|
2.
|
He worked hard as a teacher, and eventually got the promotion
he was expecting.

A:
"Sequential logical connectors"
seems to be a good description for both these adverbs, "meanwhile" and
"eventually." Both examples are perfect. Each could also be written
with a semi-colon in a formal writing style:
1.
|
The students are learning to program, so they can't start the
project yet; meanwhile, we have to do the work ourselves.
|
2.
|
He worked hard as a teacher; eventually, he got the promotion
he was expecting.
|
Your sentences flow more naturally and conversationally, however.
