State Councilor Liu Yandong on Wednesday called for all-out efforts to carry out education reform to establish a modern education system that serves China's development.
Liu made the remarks at the first meeting of the leading group in charge of the state education system reform held here Wednesday.
Liu, also head of the leading group, stressed that the education reform should be carried out in an orderly, comprehensive and coordinated way. The reform should also be implemented to meet the people's diversified demands.
The leading group meeting examined and discussed a scheme on assignment of tasks and a pilot program for implementing the country's education system reform.
China unveiled the "Outline of China's National Plan for Medium and Long-Term Education Reform and Development (2010-2020)" in July.
The leading group was formed to decide crucial measures, deployments in the implementing of the reform, and to coordinate different departments to be involved in the reform.
The group consists of officials from 20 Party or governmental departments and organizations, including the Organization Department of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, the National Development and Reform Commission, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the State Council's Development Research Center.
