Louis Braille路易斯·布莱叶
Louis Braille lived near Paris in France.路易斯·布莱叶住在法国的巴黎附近。
His father made saddles for horses.他父亲为马做了马鞍。
Don't touch the knife, Louis. 不要碰这把刀，路易斯。
It's dangerous.它很危险。
When Louis was three, 路易斯三岁的时候，
he played with one of his father's tools. 他玩他父亲的其中一个工具。
It slipped and went into his eye.它掉下来刺进了他的眼睛。
We must find a doctor.我们必须找医生。
But it was 1812. 可是那时候是1812年。
There were no buses or cars. 那时候没有巴士和小汽车。
And there were no doctors nearby.附近也没有医生。
There is a good doctor in Paris.巴黎有一位好医生。
Louis and his father went to Paris.路易斯和他父亲去了巴黎。
They travelled all day.他们整天都在奔波。
My other eye hurts, too, Papa.爸爸，我另一只眼睛也很疼。
The doctor checked Louis' eyes.医生检查了路易斯的眼睛。
Louis couldn't see.路易斯看不见东西。
What can you see?你能看到什么？
Nothing. It's very dark.什么都看不见。非常黑。
Louis and his father went home.路易斯和他爸爸回家了。
But Louis still couldn't see. 但是路易斯还是看不到。
He was blind.他的眼睛瞎了。
Louis will never read or write.路易斯将再也不能看书写字了。
At first, Louis went to the village school. 刚开始，路易斯去了村里的学校。
He was a very good student.他是个非常棒的学生。
He can't write, 他不能写字，
but he remembers everything!但是他什么都能记得住！
When he was ten, 路易斯10岁的时候，
Louis went to a special school for blind children in Paris.他去了巴黎的一间针对盲童的特殊学校。

Louis could read the alphabet with his fingers. 路易斯能用他的手指来阅读字母。
But he wanted to read more quickly.但是他想读得更快一些。
I can feel the letters, but it's very slow.我能感觉到这些字母，但是太慢了。
So Louis invented an alphabet for the blind. 于是路易斯发明了一种适合忙人的字母表。
He made different dots for each letter on a piece of paper.他在一张纸上为每个字母做出不同的点。
These three dots are the letter "d".这三个点是字母d。
A man came and read books to Louis. 一个男人来读书给路易斯听。
Louis then wrote the books in the new alphabet.然后路易斯就把这些书用新字母表写出来。
Now I can read and write!现在我会读会写了！
Louis died when he was only 42. 路易斯只有42岁的时候就去世了。
Now blind people all over the world can read and write with Braille's alphabet.现在世界各地的盲人都能用布莱叶的字母表读书写字。
We will call this new alphabet "Braille".我们将会把这种新的字母表叫做“布莱叶”。
