Revision Module A 1
Activity 1 Listen to the conversations and choose the correct answer.
Conversation A
Kate: Hi, John. How was your weekend?
John: Great! I went fishing in the river near my house.
Kate: Fishing? That sounds fun.
John: Yes. You spend hours waiting and then suddenly there’s a fish on your line. Then it’s really exciting. Our family had a competition, and my father caught the most. He caught seven fish in one day!
Kate: Wow! That’s great!
John: But you know, my mother caught the biggest fish.
Kate: And what about you?
John: I only caught one, but Mum said it tasted the best of all.
Conversation B
Tony: Hello, Betty!
Betty: Hi, Tony. You don’t look very well. What’s wrong with you?
Tony: I’ve got a toothache and a bad cough.
Betty: You must have caught a cold. Have you seen a doctor?
Tony: Yes, he took my temperature. It seemed all right.
Betty: What did the doctor say then?
Tony: Oh, he said it was nothing serious. Just a bad cold. He gave me some medicine and told me to take it three times a day. Don’t worry.
Betty: You’d better drink lots of water and get plenty of sleep. That’s the best medicine for a cold.
Tony: I will. Thank you!
Betty: Hope you get well soon.
Conversation C
Lingling: Hello. Is that Daming?
Daming: Yes. Hi, Lingling!
Lingling: Hey, are you free tomorrow?
Daming: Er…yes, I think so. What’s happening?
Lingling: The Nature Club is going on a trip to the forest park. Would you like to come?
Daming: Great! I’d love to. When and where are we going to meet?
Lingling: At the school gate at 7:10. Then we’ll go to the forest park by bus. The bus leaves at 7:30. It’ll take us 40 minutes to get there.
Daming: Do I need to bring anything?
Lingling: Oh, yes. Everyone’s going to bring their favourite food and drink. We’re going to have a picnic in the forest.
Daming: Great. I can’t wait! I’m sure we’ll have a good time.
Lingling: See you tomorrow. Remember: ten past seven—in the morning!
Daming: Don’t worry. I won’t be late!
Conversation D
Man: Can I help you?
Woman: Yes, I’d like to buy tickets to London, please.
Man: When would you like to fly?
Woman: On the 5th of May.
Man: The 5th? Let me see. Hum, I’m sorry. We don’t have any flights to London on that day. What about the 4th?
Woman: No, I can’t leave before the 5th.
Man: Then, we have a flight on the 6th.
Woman: What’s the flight number?
Man: It’s CA757.
Woman: CA757. At what time does it leave Shanghai?
Man: It takes off at 12:55. How many seats, please?
Woman: I’d like three seats.
Man: Just a moment, please.
Conversation E
Kate: Would you like to see a film with me tonight, David?
David: Go to the cinema? Are you crazy? We’ve got an exam tomorrow! Aren’t you going to go over the lessons?
Kate: I go over my lessons every day—I’m not worried. I’d like to do something relaxing before the exam.
David: You always work so hard, Kate! No wonder you never worry about exams. You seem to do well in every subject: English, Chinese, history, physics…
Kate: Except maths! But it’s no use working out maths problems before an exam.
David: You’re right. But I’d better study tonight, or I’ll fail the exam.
Kate: OK. Try to go to bed early, and good luck!
David: Thanks. I hope next time I can see a film with you. Have a good time.
