[用法讲解]
blush和flush都能表示“脸红”的意思,但用法并不相同:
1.Blush通常用于因“尴尬”、“难堪”、“害羞”等原因造成的“脸红”(to become pink in the face, usually from embarrassment, shame, embarrasment or modesty ),例如:
She blushed at the mention of her lover's name.她听人提到她情人的名字,脸就红了。
2.Flush则指因遭受强烈的感情刺激,包括由于发热或酒精刺激等原因造成的脸红(When you flush, you become red in the face, especially as a result of strong emotions, exercise, heat or alcohol),例如:
His cheeks flushed for a moment with pleasure. 他的双颊因一阵兴奋而涨红了。

选择填空:
A: I'm indebted to you. I couldn't have come this far without your help.
B: You're making me _____. It was nothing, actually.
 a. blush       b. flush
这道题的正确选项应该是a。你选对了吗?
[原汁原味]
我们来看看英美人士是怎么样区分blush和flush的吧:
In the above exercise, blush sounds right because the person in A is giving someone a "thank you" and the person receiving it is a little embarrassed or else shy about receiving that attention; we use "blush" for this reddening of the face.

But if your face turns red because you have been out running for 45 minutes, your face is flushed from the exercise. For some people this can happen when they have too much alcohol to drink. In either case, it's not a blush, it's a flush.

A face blushes when the person is embarrassed; it flushes if they are angry or jealous. Blushing is usually only for a short time and fades rather quickly. The emotion doesn't have to be really strong, some people blush easily. Flushing can last as long as the anger or other strong emotion is being felt. A blush can be faint or a strong coloring of the face, but a flush is always strong.
